Two Players Named To 2006 USA South All-Conference Team
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Two Christopher Newport women's basketball players were named to the 2006 USA South All-Conference squad, the conference announced Wednesday.
Junior forward Candace Bryant was named to the First Team All-Conference. Bryant, a VA Beach, VA native, finished 2005-2006 averaging a double-double for the second consecutive season. She averaged 13.8 points and 10 rebounds. She shot 45% from the field for the year and 66% from the charity stripe.
She finishes the year with 1,071 points, good enough for 15th on the school's all-time list. She also climbed to 10th on the all-time rebounding list with 756 rebounds.
Junior guard Nikki Rowland was named to the Second Team All-Conference team. Rowland led the team in scoring, averaging 14.3 points. She led the squad with 44 three-pointers and was an 82% shooter from the free throw line. She also averaged five rebounds and led the team in assists with 76.
Greensboro's Staci Humphrey was named the USA South Player of the Year. Kristen Whitehurst of Methodist was named Rookie of the Year and Pride Head Coach Jason Tuggle earned Coach of the Year honors.
