Women's Basketball Selected To Finish Second In USA South Preseason Poll

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport's women's basketball team was chosen to finish second in the 2005-2006 USA South preseason coaches poll released Wednesday afternoon.

Greensboro College was selected to repeat as conference champions with three first place votes and 40 points. The Lady Captains received one first place vote and 39 points, Peace was chosen to finish third with two first place votes and 36 points. Methodist was chosen to finish fourth with one first place vote and 31 points and Shenandoah also received one first place vote and 28 points.

Averett was selected to finish sixth, followed by Ferrum and NC Wesleyan.

CNU finished 2004-2005 with a record of 10-16 overall and 7-7 in the USA South.

Christopher Newport opend the 2005-2006 season at the Randolph-Macon Tournament on Friday, Nov. 18 against Randolph-Macon with tip set for 6 pm.
