Women's Soccer Picked To Win USA South Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport's women's soccer team was chosen by the coaches to repeat as champions of the USA South.

The Lady Captains, 14-5-1 overall and 6-0 in the USA South, repeated as regular season and conference tournament champions last year. CNU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season in 2005.

Christopher Newport received seven of the eight first place votes and amassed 49 points. Greensboro and Methodist each received 39 points. Greensboro did receive the remaining first place vote.

CNU kicks off the 2006 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 against Elizabethtown (PA) in the Blue Jay Classic beginning at 2:00 pm.
