Women's Tennis Equals Best Start In Program History, Upends Goucher, 8-1
BALTIMORE, MD - Christopher Newport's women's tennis team equaled its best start in program history, matching last year's 10-0 start as the Lady Captains won on the road at Goucher Wednesday.
In singles action, Lindsey Pantele (CNU) defeated Carly Heinz 7-6
(7-2) 6-3 at No. 1; Tanya Cooley defeated Stefanie Leblang (CNU) 6-2, 6-3; Frannie Shivar (CNU) defeated Stephanie Austin 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3; Brittany Stevens (CNU) defeated Mouna Attarha 6-1, 6-0; Liz Thedford (CNU) defeated Christina Grimm 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5; Chandler Long (CNU) defeated Chloe Scott-Giry 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3).
In doubles play, Pantele and Leblang (CNU) defeated Cooley and Heinz 8-1; Shivar and Stevens (CNU) defeated Austin and Grimm 8-1 at No. 2; Long and Katy Heath
(CNU) defeated Attarha and Scott-Giry 8-5.
Christopher Newport improves to 10-0 on the year while the Gophers fall to 2-7. The Lady Captains return to action this weekend as they travel to Ferrum on Saturday with start time set for 11 am.
