Women's Tennis Shuts Out Ferrum, 9-0, Off To Best Start In Program History
FERRUM, VA - Christopher Newport's women's tennis team defeated Ferrum 9-0 for its first conference win of the year and in the process, set a program record for most wins to start a season.
In singles play, Lindsey Pantele (CNU) defeated Tabitha Brown, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1; Stefanie Leblang (CNU) defeated Katie Porter 6-0, 6-1; Frannie Shivar (CNU) defeated Dayna Jacobsen 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3; Brittany Stevens (CNU) defeated Leah Austin, 6-1, 6-0; Liz Thedford (CNU) defeated Reniesha Diggs 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Chandler Long (CNU) defeated Crystal Akers 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles action, Pantele and Leblang (CNU) defeated Brown and Jacobsen 8-1; Shivar and Stevens (CNU) defeated Porter and Austin 8-1 at No. 2; and Long and Kelly Clay (CNU) defeated Akers and Diggs 8-1.
The Lady Captains began last season as well as 2007 with 10 consecutive wins. However, in 2006, CNU lost its 11th match and with its win over Ferrum today, Christopher Newport improved to 11-0 on the year and 1-0 in the USA South.
CNU returns to action Sunday as they travel to Roanoke with start time set for 11 am.
