Thedford Named Rookie Of The Year, Nuttycombe Named Coach Of The Year, Six Total Named All-Conference

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport women's tennis player Liz Thedford was named the USA South's Rookie of the Year, Head Coach Jenny Nuttycombe was named the Coach of the Year and six total players were named to the USA South's All-Conference Team, the USA South announced Thursday.

Freshman Liz Thedford, a native of Fredericksburg, VA, was named the USA South's Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year. Thedford is 16-1 (14-1 at No. 5) overall in singles action this year. She is also 7-1 (5-1 at No. 3) overall in doubles action. She was also named Honorable Mention All-Conference

Nuttycombe is currently in her fifth year at the helm and has guided her team to a 19-0 overall record in the regular season and 7-0 in conference play. This year's team is just the second team in school history (1978 men's tennis, 15-0) to finish the regular season with a perfect record. It's the second time in her tenure that she has logged Coach of the Year honors.

Earning First Team All-USA South honors were Lindsey Pantele, Stefanie Leblang and Frannie Shivar.

Pantele is 15-3 on the year at No. 1 singles. She's currently ranked 46th in the Atlantic South Region. She has teamed with Leblang to go 18-0 at No. 1 doubles. The duo is also ranked 36th in the region. Leblang is 15-4 (14-4 at No. 2) in singles action this year. She's also 19-0 overall at No. 1 doubles.

Shivar has finished the regular season with a perfect 19-0 record (18-0 at No. 3). She has now won 31 straight singles matches, dating back to last season. In doubles, Shivar has teamed with Brittany Stevens to go 16-1 at No. 2. Overall, Shivar is 18-1 in doubles play.

Earning Second Team accolades was Brittany Stevens. Stevens is currently 14-4 (13-4 at No. 4) overall in singles competition this year. She is also a combined 17-1 (16-1 at No. 2) in doubles play this year.

Chandler Long was named Honorable Mention All-USA South. Long is a perfect 16-0 in singles action this year, seeing all of her time at the No. 6 spot. In doubles, Long is 15-2 overall in doubles action, with most of her time coming at the No. 3 spot.
