Women's Tennis Shuts Out Averett, 9-0

BURLINGTON, NC - Christopher Newport's women's tennis squad shut out Averett 9-0 and advanced to the semifinals of the USA South Conference Tournament Friday afternoon.

In singles play, Lindsey Pantele (CNU) defeated Kerrie Fallen 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1; Stefanie Leblang (CNU) defeated Jordin Maupin 6-0, 6-0; Frannie Shivar (CNU) defeated Kim Caroll 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3; Brittany Stevens (CNU) defeated Andrea Tanksley 8-0; Liz Thedford (CNU) defeated Marie Keatts 8-1 at No. 5 and Chandler Long (CNU) defeated Niina Martila 8-0.

In doubles competition, Pantele and Leblang (CNU) defeated Fallen and Caroll 8-0; Shivar and Stevens (CNU) defeated Tanksley and Keatts 8-0 at No. 2; and Long and Kelly Clay (CNU) defeated Maupin and Kayla Craddock 8-0.

Christopher Newport improves to 20-0 on the year while Averett finishes 2007 with a record of 1-9. The LAdy Captains return to action Saturday as they take on Greensboro at 1 pm.
