Three Women's Tennis Players Named All-State

FERRUM, VA - Three Christopher Newport women's tennis players were named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State Team, the association announced this week.

Lindsey Pantele earned First Team All-State honors. The sophomore from Richmond, VA finished 18-3 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Stefanie Leblang to go 21-0 at No. 1 doubles. Pantele is currently ranked 20th in singles in the Atlantic-South and 15th in doubles. Pantele was also a First Team All-Conference pick and was also named to the USA South's All-Tournament Team.

Leblang and Frannie Shivar earned Second Team All-State honors.

Leblang finished the year 17-5 (16-5 at No. 2) in singles play and finished 21-0 with Pantele at No. 1 doubles. Leblang was a First Team All-USA South pick in 2007 and was named to the USA South's All-Tournament Team.

Shivar finished singles play in 2007 with a perfect 22-0 record and has now won 34 straight singles matches dating back to the spring of 2006. Shivar and Brittany Stevens were 18-2 at No. 2 doubles this season. Shivar was also a First Team All-Conference selection and was also named to the USA South's All-Tournament squad.
