Former CNU baseball player Keith Parr becomes the new head coach of CNU softball this spring, stepping in for Paul Weiss who has retired but will remain with the program as Associate Coach..

Parr graduated in 1999 from Christopher Newport with a degree in Recreation, Sports, and Wellness Management.

Parr has been an assistant under Weiss for the last four years. The CNU graduate and former baseball player helped lead the Lady Captains to a 131-38-2 record during those seasons. That has been the most successful four-year stretch in CNU softball history.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to lead such a great and successful program,” noted Parr. “I’m looking forward to a great year. We’ve got a lot of really good players returning and we’re going to work them really hard to try to be even more successful than in the past.”

As a baseball player for the Captains he had an outstanding senior season as a pitcher with a 5-0 record including a 2.66 ERA and a .217 opponents’ batting average.

He subsequently helped found a team in the Tidewater Collegiate Summer Baseball League and coached the Virginia Legends, an Amateur Softball Association Junior Olympic traveling team. He also worked for the Virginia Roadsters of the Women’s Professional Softball League in 1999.

CNU softball is definitely a family affair for him. He is married to former Lady Captain  player Joy Davison.
