SOFTBALL SWEEPS DOUBLE HEADER FROM VA WESLEYAN 1-0 AND 4-0

 

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – CNU’s softball team opened the 2003 season with a double header sweep, 1-0 and 4-0, over VA Wesleyan Tuesday afternoon at Destany Park.

The Lady Captains scored the first game’s lone run in the bottom of the third when Tammi Perok scored Lauren Batson on a RBI single.

Perok led the CNU attack with two hits, Batson and Susan Ishman added one hit a piece.

Vanessa Gray went the distance allowing three hits and striking out two and walking two.  She is now 1-0.

In game two, the Lady Captains scored twice in the first, and once in the third and fourth innings.  Batson was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, Dallas Slosjarik was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, Vanessa Gray was 1-for-3 with a RBI and Renee Sigafoos was 1-for-3 with a double.

Michelle Kass pitched seven innings in her CNU debut.  She allowed four hits, walked four and struck out one in earning her first win of the season.

The Lady Captains are 2-0 and return to action Wednesday as they take on York (PA) at 1 pm in a make-up of Sunday’s rained out contest.
