SOFTBALL SWEEPS N.C. WESLEYAN, 3-2 AND 5-1

  ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The softball team opened Dixie Conference play by sweeping pre-season Dixie favorite N.C. Wesleyan, 2-3 and 5-1, Wednesday on the road.

  In the opener the game went into extra innings scoreless when CNU erupted for three runs in the eighth and then held off the Bishops’ last effort which saw them score two in the bottom of the inning. Jen Harrell was 2-3 with a double and Donna Cerami picked up the victory, allowing just one earned run.

  In the nightcap CNU again broke a scoreless tie, this time with a run in the top of the sixth. The Lady Captains then added four more in the seventh. Stacey Hundley was 2-4, Vanessa Gray 2-3 and Tammi Perok had a triple and three RBIs. In addition, Jenise Wade and Jennifer Nowacki each had doubles. Gray went the distance on the mound, with the only run she allowed being unearned.

  CNU, which is now 5-2, will play a make-up doubleheader with Susquehanna Thursday at Captains Field.
