SOFTBALL SWEEPS SHENANDOAH, 10-2, 11-1
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Christopher Newport softball team swept a doubleheader from Shenandoah Saturday, winning the first game, 10-2, and the second, 11-1, both in five innings.
In the opener, CNU scored in all four of its at bats with Lauren Batson going 2-2 and Melanie Hose 2-3. In addition, C.J. McQueen had an inside-the-park home run and three RBIs. Michelle Kass got the victory to improve her record to 6-4.
In the nightcap, the Lady Captains erupted for eight runs in the third inning including a two-run double by Susan Ishman and a three-run triple by Batson. Nicole Gray was also 2-2. McQueen got the win in her first collegiate start with a three-hitter.
The victories run CNU’s all-time record against Shenandoah to 30-0. CNU is now 16-4 and 3-1 in USA South play, while the Hornets are 3-10 and 0-6.
CNU plays Peace at home Sunday at 1:30.
