SOFTBALL SWEEPS DOUBLE HEADER FROM PEACE

 

NEWPORT NEWS, VACNU’s softball team swept its second double header in as many days defeating Peace 2-1 and 8-0 Sunday afternoon.

In game one, Michelle Kass tied her own school record for strikeouts in a game with 14 while allowing five hits and walking none en route to her seventh win of the season.

CJ McQueen drove in the first Lady Captain run in the third inning on a run scoring triple.  Andrea Rhode drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Susan Ishman went 2-for-3.

In game two, CNU’s bats exploded for 14 hits in a game that went five innings due to the run rule.  Vanessa Gray improved to 10-0 by pitching a two-hitter while walking none and striking out three.

McQueen went 2-for-3 with an inside the park home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.  Lauren Batson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, Nicole Gray went 3-for-3 and Melanie Hose finished 2-for-3.

Peace falls to 7-8-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the USA South.

The Lady Captains are now 18-4 overall and 5-1 in the USA South.

CNU returns to action Tuesday as they travel to Chowan with first pitch set for 2:30 pm.
