SOFTBALL SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER FROM RANDOLPH-MACON WOMEN’S COLLEGE NEWPORT NEWS, VA – CNU’s softball squad swept a doubleheader from Randolph-Macon Women's College Friday afternoon.CNU won both games in convincing fashion, with both shortened to five innings because of the eight-run rule.The Lady Captains took the opener, 8-0, behind the shutout pitching of Vanessa Gray. Gray retired the first 14 batters she faced before walking one and then allowing a single in the fifth. She finished the game with a one-hitter to improve to 9-2 on the season.Dallas Slosjarik led the CNU attack in game one with two singles and two runs batted in.CNU took the nightcap, 16-2, scoring five runs in each of the first three innings. Stacey Hundley had three hits, including two doubles, and scored four runs. Slosjarik had three hits in game two, including two doubles, to finish the twin bill with five hits. Renee Sigafoos blasted a first-inning three-run homer for Christopher Newport.Barbara Rose went four innings to pick up the win to go to 3-1 on the year.CNU is now 13-6 for the season and will host Lynchburg Saturday in a 2:30 doubleheader.
