The Lady Captains of Christopher Newport continued their winning ways Sunday by sweeping a doubleheader from Greensboro at Captains Field. CNU took the opener, 10-0, and won the nightcap by a score of 14-1.

The Dixie Conference wins give CNU a 5-1 conference record and an overall mark of 18-5. CNU has now won seven straight. Both games were shortened to five innings.

Christopher Newport won the opener behind the strong pitching of Donna Cerami, who threw her second one-hitter in as many days. Cerami struck out seven while raising her record to 10-2 on the year.

The Lady Captains used the long ball to score half of their ten runs. Renee Sigafoos smacked a two-run home run and Jennifer Nowacki hit a three-run shot. Nowacki was 2 for 3 in the game as was pitcher Donna Cerami.

In the second game, CNU broke out early by scoring five runs in the first inning and never looked back. Vanessa Gray, who threw a perfect game Saturday at Randolph-Macon Women’s College, went the distance and raised her record to 8-2.

CNU tallied 17 hits in the game, with Jen Harrell going 3 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI’s.

Christopher Newport won all four games over the weekend by a combined score of 46-1.
