SOFTBALL SWEEPS DOUBLE HEADER FROM
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – CNU’s softball team defeated Elizabeth City State 9-0 in game one and 9-0 in game two at Destany Park Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Captains won the first game in six innings, 9-0, as Vanessa Gray provided shutout pitching. Gray allowed one hit, which she gave up the first batter of the game. Gray improved to 5-2 on the year with the win, her fourth shutout of the year.
CNU had 13 hits in game one Gray led the attack going 2-for-2. Eleven other players had one hit each.
In the nightcap, CNU won 9-0 in a game shortened to five innings. Michelle Kass improved to 8-1 on the year with the win, and struck out 10 batters in five innings. Kass has now thrown five shutouts this season.
Jen Harrell, Gray and Rachel Doyle each had two hits. Doyle also drove in two runs.
