SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH VIRGINIA WESLEYAN

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The softball team split a doubleheader with Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday at Captains Field, losing the first game 2-0 and winning the second, 1-0.

Virginia Wesleyan pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth to spoil CNU’s 11-game winning streak with 2-0 victory. CNU managed just three hits, a double by Crystal Storey and singles by Stacey Hundley and Jen Harrell. Donna Cerami took the tough loss and now has a 12-3 record.

Vanessa Gray then shutout the Marlins in game two, pitching a four-hitter. CNU got the game’s only run in the third when Heather Walters reached on an infield single, moved to second on Hundley’s sacrifice and scored when Tammi Perok’s infield single was thrown away.

Gray is now 11-2 and CNU holds a 23-6 record. Va. Wesleyan is 17-6.

The Lady Captains take to the road this weekend, traveling to Lynchburg Friday and Ferrum Saturday.
