SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLE HEADER WITH METHODIST

 

NEWPORT NEWS, VACNU’s softball team split a double header with conference rival Methodist Thursday afternoon at Destany Park.

Methodist took the opener in eight innings, 2-1, while the Lady Captains won the

nightcap, 3-1.

In the second game, CNU pitcher Michelle Kass set a school record with 17 strikeouts and improved to 10-1 on the season with a two-hit performance. CNU broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, the game winner scoring on a single by Rachel Doyle.

Methodist took the opener as Jennifer Patrick scored on a wild pitch from Vanessa Gray in the top of the eighth inning. The loss snapped a 12-game CNU winning streak.

Christopher Newport is now 17-4-1 on the season and 4-1 in the Dixie Conference. Methodist is 21-7 overall and 5-3 in the Dixie.

The Lady Captains travel to Ferrum for a doubleheader on Friday.
