SOFTBALL SWEEPS DOUBLE HEADER FROM METHODIST, EARNS USA SOUTH REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP

 

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – CNU’s softball team swept a double header at Methodist Saturday afternoon and earned the USA South regular season championship and the conference tournament’s number one seed.

In game one, the Lady Captains won 9-0 in five innings.  CNU scored three in the second, two more in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth for the win.

The Lady Captains had 16 hits, all singles and were led by Lauren Batson who was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Dallas Slosjarik went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Andrea Rhode finished 2-for-4, and Renee Sigafoos and Melanie Hose each went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.  CJ McQueen finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs.

Michelle Kass pitched a complete game allowing two hits while walking one and striking out seven.  She now has increased her school record for strikeouts in a season to 163 and is just 27 off Donna Cerami’s school record of 319 strikeouts in a career.  Kass is now 17-4 on the season.

In game two, CNU won 7-0.  Batson led the way finishing 3-for-3 with two stolen bases.  McQueen went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs scored and two RBIs and Slosjarik finished 2-for-3.

Vanessa Gray pitched the first five innings for her 16th win of the year.  She allowed just three hits.  Kass pitched the final two innings allowing no hits while striking out three.

The sixth ranked Lady Captains finish the regular season 35-5 overall and 15-1 in USA South play.  Check the CNU Athletics website for all your USA South Conference Tournament information.
