SOFTBALL TAKES DIXIE LEAD WITH SWEEP AT SHENANDOAH
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The softball team moved into first place in the Dixie Conference with a doubleheader sweep at Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.
In the opener the Lady Captains won 12-0 in five innings as Donna Cerami pitched a 4-hitter, striking out nine. Jen Harrell was 3-4 with four RBIs, Tammi Perok was 2-3, Jenise Wade 2-2 and Nicole Slosjarik had a double and four RBIs.
In the second game the Lady Captains won 17-5 in six innings. CNU had an 11-1 lead in the fourth when the Hornets scored four times. CNU ended with six in the sixth. Jennifer Nowacki was 4-5 with a triple, a pair of home runs and four RBIs. Harrell had a home run and four RBIs, Crystal Bryant-Nelson was 2-5 and Stacey Proctor had a home run.
CNU is 26-7 and 7-1 in Dixie play. It leads Methodist, which has completed Dixie play at 10-2, by percentage points.
The Lady Captains host Elmira Monday, travel to Rocky Mount, Va., for a make-up doubleheader with Ferrum and return home Wednesday for a make-up doubleheader with Averett.
