SOFTBALL SWEEPS ELMIRA, RECORDS THIRD STRAIGHT 30-WIN SEASON
NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The softball team registered a doubleheader shutout sweep over Elmira, running its record to 30-9, the third straight season CNU has
won at least 30 games and the sixth in eight years.
It took nine innings in game one as the Lady Captains took a 1-0 victory. In the final inning Jennifer Nowacki was placed at second base to start the ining under
internationals rules. Vanessa Gray bunted her to third and she scored on an overthrow of first on Renee Sigafoos’ bunt. Gray hurled nine shutout innings, allowing just
four hits She had five strikeouts and improved her record to 17-4. Dallas Slosjarik was 2-3.
In game two CNU picked up five runs in the first and coasted to an 8-0 win in five innings. Barbara Rose got the win raising her record to 7-4 with a one-hitter.
Sigafoos was 2-3 with two RBIs.
The Lady Captains have averaged better than 31 wins a game for the last eight years. The open play in the Dixie Conference Tournament Friday in Tarboro, N.C.
as the No. 1 seed and meet Shenandoah.
