TARBORO, N.C. – Renee Sigafoos drove in Dallas Slosjarik with the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Christopher Newport a 3-2 win over N.C. Wesleyan in the first round of the Dixie Conference Tournament Thursday.

Slosjarik reached on a single, was sacrificed to second and moved to third on a wild pitch to set up the game-winning run.

The Bishops took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth when Sarah Parker drove in Lettie Lawrence with a ground ball and Melissa Leonard scored on a sacrifice fly by Heather Petrillo.

But CNU tied in the bottom of the inning when Vanessa Gray hit a two-out triple, scoring Slosjarik and Andrea Thorson doubled to score Slosjarik.

For CNU Thorson was 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Petrillo limited CNU to five hits and struck out five, while CNU pitcher Michelle Kass hurled a four-hitter with four strikeouts.

Christopher Newport, now 28-5-1, meets Methodist in the winners’ bracket Friday at 11 a.m., while N.C. Wesleyan, 11-26, meets Ferrum at 7 p.m. Thursday in the losers’ bracket.
