SOFTBALL FALLS TO AVERETT 1-0

RALIEGH, NC – Top seeded CNU dropped a 1-0 decision to Averett on day two of the USA South Conference Softball Tournament Saturday morning.

The Lady Cougars were the only team to defeat the Lady Captains in conference play and it seems Averett still has CNU’s number.

The game’s only run came in the Averett fifth on an unearned run.  Brittany Estep led the inning off with a single, LaToya Jones sacrificed Estep to second which was followed a strikeout by Katie Jimmo.  Laura Bowman then hit a ground ball to shortstop and CJ McQueen committed a throwing error allowing Estep to score.

Vanessa Gray lost just her second game of the year pitching a complete game allowing six hits, one unearned run, one walk and three strikeouts.  She is now 17-2 on the season.

The Lady Captains are now 36-6 overall and play Chowan Saturday at 1 pm.
