SOFTBALL DOWNS AVERETT 14-0

 

TARBORO, NC - Christopher Newport scored 11 runs in the sixth inning to eliminate Averett Friday evening 14-0.

Andrea Thorson's single that scored Jen Harrell in the top of the second proved to be all the runs CNU would need.  Harrell added two more with a two-run home run in the top of the third inning.  The Lady Captains scored 11 run in the top of the sixth to shorten the game due to 8-run rule. Harrell finished the game 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.  Winning pitcher Vanessa Gray and Thorson each went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Rachel Doyle went 2-for-3 woth two RBIs.  Dallas Slosjarik went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Gray was the winning pitcher going all six allowing three hits, no walks and striking out three.

For Averett, Magen Powell, LaToya Thomas, and Crystal Chandler each had one hit for Averett.

Heather Mill took the loss going 5 1/3 innings allowing 10 hits, nine runs but only three earned and walked one.

Averett finished the season 21-17.  CNU improves to 30-6-1 and will play Chowan Saturday morning at 11 am with the winner facing Methodist at 1 pm.
