SOFTBALL ADVANCES TO PLAY METHODIST AFTER 10-1 WIN OVER CHOWAN

TARBORO, NC – CNU’s softball team used two five-run innings to eliminate Chowan 10-1 in the semifinals of the Dixie Conference Softball Tournament Saturday afternoon.

A grand slam home run by Jen Harrell and a three-run home run by Rachel Doyle provided plenty of offense for the Lady Captains who had 14 hits. Harrell had her second straight perfect game in a row as she was 3-for-3 with four RBIs, including the grand slam.  Doyle was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Andrea Thorson and Dallas Slosjarik each went 2-for-3 as well.

For Chowan, their only run came on a solo home run off the bat of Priscilla Weidner in the top half of the third inning.  Ashley Roundtree and Tori Flint were each 1-for-2.

Vanessa Gray took the win in the shortened game as she went five innings allowing one run on three hits.  For Chowan, Kayla Meacom suffered the loss going two innings allowing eight runs on 10 hits.

Chowan finishes the season 24-11 and CNU improves to 31-6-1.  The Lady Captains will play Methodist in the championship game.  If Methodist loses, theses two teams will play again right after the 1 pm contest.
