SOFTBALL TAKES DIXIE TITLE, GETS NCAA AUTOMATIC BID
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The softball team swept through the Dixie Conference Tournament in three straight games, the last a 2-1 win over N.C. Wesleyan to capture the conference championship and its automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
CNU won its first game of the day, 4-0, over the Bishops in nine innings, scoring four times in the ninth. Stacey Hundley, Vanessa Gray, Donna Cerami and Nicole Slosjarik were all 2-4.
CNU then waited to meet N.C. Wesleyan in the championship, taking a 2-1 victory as Hundley went 2-3.
The Lady Captains are now 35-7 and have won 11 in a row and 24 of their last 26 games. This will be CNU’s fourth NCAA appearance and first since 1998. The tournament will not begin until mid-May.
