SOFTBALL GOES 4-1 AT METHODIST INV.
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The softball team began its 2000 season
strong, going 4-1 at the Methodist Invitational Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Captains started with a 3-2 win over Gwynedd Mercy
as Tammi Perok went 2-4, Andi McKenney 3-3. Kim Messick and Jennifer Nowacki
each had triples. Donna Cerami got the win on the mount.
CNU then defeated Bethany, 4-1, as Nowacki went 3-4 with a double
and Lesley Jenkins was 2-4 with a double. B.J. Biringer limited Berthany
to five hits and got the win.
In Friday's last game of the day CNU topped Lynchburg, 3-2,
with Stacey Hundley going 2-3, Crystal Bryant-Nelson had the game-winning
hit, a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh. Cerami was again the
winning pitcher.
Saturday CNU edged N.C. Wesleyan in the winners bracket, 2-1.
Cerami went 2-3 and got her third win, while Nowacki had another triple.
But in the final game Averett scored in the bottom of the eighth
for a 2-1 win.
